First, I love this author and her creativity and style of writing. I read Six of Crows Series and her Grisha Series in probably 2 weeks, procrastinating lots of other things I should have been doing as I couldn't put the books down. I would give those books 5 stars. For me, these stories were a little too dark and gruesome and not as creative. It could be I Iike a happy or hopeful ending and a couple of these dark stories just left me with a creepy feeling. I like escapism in reading, but don't want to think about things like pediihelia or a serial murderer. Those are the books I try to stay away from. I see enough of that on the news.

I started this and finished it in one night and I took all night long because I had to look at the gorgeous artwork. I have found love. These tales from lands in the Grishaverse have made me even more of a Leigh Bardugo fan of that is even possible. The last story When Water Sang Fire blew me away! I love mermaids and I just want to live in the last page. If I could make my home anywhere it would be there honestly, if you have the book just go look at the last page and you’ll understand. There were so many elements to these stories, fantasy, fairy tales, heartbreak, and so much love that I got attached to all of the characters in all of the stories. Of my favorite the first story Ayama and the Thorn Wood, The Solider Prince, and the last one I’ve already mentioned are probably my favorite but all are worth the read, and then a reread. I’ll make it my bedtime book and just keep reading them before bed each night to have amazing dreams!

But not only is the outside beautiful but the inside as well! The gradual progression of the drawings bordering each page of a story is brilliant and the illustrations are all so lovely!Each story is told in a voice I could easily hear standing alongside those of the famous Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen. And similarly these tales are much darker and more grisly than what can be found on the Disney classics shelves. What I really enjoyed I think was how Bardugo took inspiration from the world she’s crafted in her books and inspiration from fairytales handed down in our own world and merged the two, instilling vaguely familiar tales with a much fuller story and deeper message. As beloved as fairytales are one must admit that they are often a bit nonsensical, predictable, and seem to only skim the surface. These tales however are short but well developed and thought out, brimming with a relatable authenticity that one can either identify with or at least grasp its lessons.If you’re a fan of fairytales, folktales, wives tales, or the Grishaverse, then I definitely recommend you grab a copy of this beautiful book!**Read my FULL review on my Wordpress site: Pooled Ink

This collection was every bit as gorgeous as I had hoped it would be--if not more. I love how unique the stories are while also bearing strong influences and taking on familiar forms of other classic fairy tales. Bardugo truly proves her creative and accomplished writing skills in this collection, weaving together lyrical words with jaw-dropped stories and themes. These stories contain beautiful messages and dismantle on so many fairy tale tropes in order to create new ones by maintain the classic ideas but warping them into something rather different.The illustrations in this book are also so beautiful and add so very much to this entire story. I love how each story alternated with the blue and red color scheme, and I particularly loved how the border of each story developed as the story continued. That entire concept was a beautiful, creative idea that worked out wonderfully.And now I'd like to include a brief word on each story:Ayama and the Thorn Wood - ★★★★: I found this to be a perfect story to start the collection off with. There were some incredibly classic elements that made it feel very classic, while also embodying an wholly new and unique story at the same time. I loved the storytelling element added to this story and felt that the entire thing was quite lovely. It became slightly repetitive towards the end, which I understand is common in these types of stories, but that took away some of my enjoyment.The Too-Clever Fox - ★★★★: I really enjoyed this story, although I found it slightly predictable at times. This one felt particularly classic and familiar, but I loved the various twists Bardugo weaved into it. I really enjoyed reading about all of the different animals and there roles, but the clever fox, of course, was my favorite. "The Too-Clever Fox" gets a little darker than the first story, but it still weaves in an interesting little fable message.The Witch of Duva - ★★★★★: I loved this one! The entire concept and the dark atmosphere that permeated the entire story in such a wonderful manner were amazing, and I really think Bardugo crafted this one perfectly. The witch was a fascinating character, and i loved how somewhat disturbing and odd this story became as it went on.Little Knife - ★★★★★: "Little Knife" is brilliant. This is a story about a girl named Yuva who is so jaw-droppingly beautiful that she literally has to go around with a veil over her so that people can control themselves when she is around. This is another one that I really loved. It was such a classic and timeless tale, and one that I really enjoyed.The Soldier Prince - ★★★: This was probably my least favorite content-wise. I loved the illustrations and border decorations on this story, but the story itself fell somewhat flat for me. This is a take on the Nutcracker, and although I enjoyed that aspect, I felt a little lost and uninterested in many parts o this story. the plot idea was interesting, but the execution felt lackluster.When Water Sang Fire- ★★★★: I completely understand why this was chosen as the last story of the book, as it leaves an incredibly strong message. This is a Little Mermaid-inspired tale that is all about sacrifice, ambition, and acceptance. I don't want to go into any detail on this one because it is wonderful to discover on your own.Overall, I've given The Language of Thorns five stars! I can definitely see myself re-reading these tales and even reading them to others.

This is a beautiful book with vivid stories from the wonderful Grisha world. Even if you have not read the Grisha Trilogy or the Six of Crows Duology, if you like fairy tails rewritten and short stories this is a wonderful collection of 6 stories. My favorite is the story of Ursula before she became evil. Then meshing of the Nutcracker and the Velveteen Rabbit is really good too. Read and see if you can spot all the old stories in the new ones here!

Love the recipes but the spine should not come free of the pages within minutes of opening the book. Now the pages are coming loose and that is totally unacceptable for day 1 of having this cookbook. Seriously not okay. I was so excited and was planning on buying another copy for my nieces birthday, now I’m very hesitant to spend the money on it.Ended up going to Barnes and Noble to see if the book on their shelves was better produced, same thing but a full $10 more so ended up just buying another from Amazon. Love the book but I've made two of her recipes and I think I need to follow just the measurements not the weights listed because following her weights you do not end up with enough dough on one recipe and the chocolate babka sugar cookie was a monster to try and roll out. It absolutely needed at least 1/4 cup of flour for each recipe. But I'm sticking with 4 stars for the absolute genius of her cookies, just maybe follow the measurements not weights and if something isn't coming together right, and you're a solid baker, assume it's the recipe and just make adjustments for it.

Beautiful pictures of all the cookies! I've had the chocolate chip cookie stuffed with Nutella, and it's delicious! My kids already picked which ones they want to make next (Red velvet cookie stuffed with cheesecake and Candy cane surprise). There are also helpful step by step pictures for the more advanced cookies (like the Cinnamon roll cookie). I think these unique cookies will be a hit at parties or when having friends over. This cookbook would make a great gift to the pastry chef in your life!

I've followed My Dessert Diet on Facebook for quite a while, and when I saw a book release was coming, I immediately pre-ordered. I am certainly not disappointed. For Christmas, I made the sugar cookie filled chocate mint cookies that are covered with crushed candy cane and other goodies. They were very tasty and a huge hit with both kids and adults! The cookie making process was lengthy, but so worth it in the end! I'll definitely be trying other recipes from the book for upcoming occasions.

I ordered this book because I wanted to find cookie recipes for my niece and nephew when they visited. The cookies are huge and more than enough for one person. Overall, this is a good book and you will get "cookie overload" after making and attempting to eat the cookies you made.

... and so easy to make!! I follow Wendy Kou on Instagram and with this book, I can finally taste her cookies!! So far, I've made the Chocolate Hazelnut Spread Babka Cookie and Red Velvet Cookie Stuffed with Cheesecake. My kids can't get enough!

I haven't had the pleasure of trying these recipes yet, however, they are very well laid out. I follow Kou's Instagram and loved all the designs she did, so I am excited to create them in my own kitchen.

I like the idea of this book. But you need cake flour for a few of the cookies that I wanted to make. OK not hard to get but something I do not usually keep in my pantry. Good book otherwise.

So many new ideas. I read it from cover to cover.

I've never been to Chicago. I never heard of Berghof until I purchased this book. I did buy the book though and have been testing the recipes. My family, read that wife, is very picky about what she eats and so I approached the recipes cautiously. Because it's the summer, I started off with salads. Before I could do that, I had to start with the dressings. The ranch and the champaign have no equal in a bottle...they're easy, they're wonderful and healthful since I know what's in them. Since the dressings were sucessful throughout the family, I progressed on to the salads. My wife, who doesn't like salads, craved for more. She really liked the shrimp salad.Well, on to the soups. Delicious! Then on to the main courses. Since I spent most of my life in Germany and therefore know German food, I started there with schnitzels. Then on to spaetzle. Every receipe was good and it felt good to have a receipe that I could rely on to be good 100% of the time. I must admit that the recipes are close to those in German cookbooks but they are good and the taste takes me back to the wood paneled gasthouses of Germany.I haven't tried any of the deserts but know they'll be as wonderful as the other recipes have been.In fact, since everything was so good, I went on to order the big Berghof restaurant cookbook which looks good but which I haven't had time to try out yet.The Berghof cafe is worth every penny and I hope that there will be more Berghof cookbooks to follow.

The demise of the original Berghoff Restaurant on Adams in downtown Chicago was a blow to families who had frequented it for generations. I remember standing for two hours on crutches after knee surgery to get into the Berghoff for my 'last supper' about a week before it closed after nearly a century in continuous operation. That said, the bright spot on the horizon was when Caryn Berghoff opened a smaller operation on the same site. While the core menu items are still on the menu, the emphasis seems to be on delicious yet modern presentations. This collection of recipes focuses primarily on the Berghoff Cafe format. The recipes are fairly easy, tasty, and satisfying to a modern palate. I particularly like that I can enjoy the Berghoff w/o having to take a train and fight the crowds. I incorporated a couple of the recipes into my Thanksgiving dinner and will def. be adding more to the repertoire for Christmas. The resounding success of the dishes served at Thanksgiving has prompted me to buy 3 additional cookbooks as Christmas gifts. This cookbook makes a wonderful companion to the Berghoff Family Cookbook.

Beautiful book. Great Recipes. The well executed recipes in this book are like a trip down memory lane and will be treasured. Five generations of my family have celebrated happy events at Berghoff and we share beautiful memories of wonderful times and excellent German food.. I feel a great sense of loss that Berghoff is no more.

This book is so much more than just a cookbook. Its interesting to read and the recipes are great fun to make. I use this cookbook often and my family and friends have loved every dish! I really like that the author shares stories about her life and the Berghoff Restaurant. I have also given this cookbook as a gift to others that enjoy good german food.

Remember the good old days when you could go into a corner bar and get the best food on earth? This cook book made my mouth water and even though I'm not a good cook, I'll try each recipe and know that it's going to be delicious. This is "bar cookin" at it's best. Try it, all you oldies out there!! I sent a copy to my daughter, even though she doesn't remember the days of the corner bar!!

Got this cookbook for my wife when she received the Berghoff Family Cookbook. The recipies, however tasty, are not traditional Berghoff restaurant style as they came from the cafe (nachos, sandwiches and soups). If you already have the Berghoff Family Cookbook this would be a good addition.

This is a really nice cookbook with a variety of different recipes, I really love the homemade dressing recipes, especially the one for Thousand Island Dressing. It has alot of different sandwiches and pizzas. It's an excellent cookbook as far as I'm concerned, I don't regret purchasing it. Buy it for yourself and start to enjoy some wonderful food!

I have fantastic memories of the Berghoff family restaurants when I lived close to Chicago. This is another book with terrific recipes.

If you only take one or two of these vitamins, you quickly become deficient in the missing vitamins. Other benefits include reversing Type ok Diabetis. A huge plus--if you are not taking a blood thinner is that these three vitamins will remove plaque in the arteries. It is important to release the old calcium. If a mother has enough of all three vitamins, in other words waiting until you suspect the mother is pregnant, the babies teeth will grow in straight (no braces, the babies nostrils will be better formed, AND the mother's labor will be easier. These vitamins also prevent Alzheimer's. Many other benefits.

Great book with excellent information on the importance of Vitamin K2's role in delivering calcium where it needs to go in the body, such as the bones and teeth. K2 is the "key" that allows calcium delivery into the bones. Surprisingly, unabsorbed "calcium supplements" (even the ones with D3 and magnesium) get deposited in the arteries, which can cause hardening of the arteries. The doctors, who wrote this book, back up their advice with research and point us to foods or supplements containing K2. One other important factor is the need for Vitamin A to remove plaque from the body including arteries, bone spurs, etc.

Dr. Leong's book on K2 is a very good treatise on the necessity of K2 in the diet and how it works to keep calcium out of our arteries and in our bones, thus helping keep us away from atherosclerosis and helping those of us who have osteoporosis. Everyone should study up on Vitamin K2 and, for that purpose, Dr. Leong's book has much important information.

Like other books/articles on Vitamin K/K2, this book IGNORES an exploration of the 'elephant in the room', and arguably the most important aspect, namely, WHAT EXACTLY IS THE RISK OF BLOOD CLOTTING/THROMBOSIS from taking K2 (and/or K1)? Is it because Vitamin K makes the blood more sticky?It is clearly a REAL possibility, from the WARNING given that those on Warfarin or other blood thinning drugs should NOT take these vitamins. This aspect is glossed over in my opinion, because it is not fully explored.This then begs the question WHAT CAN BE DONE in advance of such a decision? What about the possibility of an emergency operation? What, if anything, can doctors do to obviate the danger of thrombosis in such an event? Shouldn't one indicate this on hospital admission forms? What about this danger on long haul airplane journeys? How long before such a journey would one need to stop taking this vitamin? Does this then also mean that those taking a small dose of Aspirin daily are throwing their money away if they also take a Vitamin K supplement? What about first having a Carotid scan done to see if there is or is not a build up of plaque or Calcium in one's arteries, and thus whether or not one needs to take Vitamin K? Even without a history of stroke or heart disease, is it possible that a PI test might be able to say if certain individuals have a greater tendency to "sticky" blood than others? In other words, I have a distinct uneasiness when the dangers are not as fully explored as the benefits whenever a "new" drug or Vitamin suddenly becomes the "flavour of the month" in the published texts. Suddenly one is being told that taking Vitamin D plus Calcium without Vitamin K2 might have put us at great risk for heart disease. How long before we are told that vitamin K2 (or K1) has resulted in increased danger? What about discussing the difference between Calcium in the form of skimmed milk as opposed to an actual mineral supplement? What is the difference, in terms of both absorption of calcium from each and the amount of milk needed daily? If K2 has a half life of 3 days in the body, then shouldn't we only be taking it in every 3rd day, so as to avoid a high build up in our systems?However, I do feel that the information given is interesting and put across in a reader- friendly way, and measures up to other texts on the same subject.

Great price ($13!!) & Great Condition!! Has the slightessttttt signs of wear, on a scale from 1-100, with 100 being mint condition, it is at a 92. Very pleased. People stop wasting your money on Newest Edition Brand new books, it is the publishers way to keep making money, BUT cars are barely changing! This book will give you all you need to know to pass any ASE Cert test, trust me, i did. ALWAYS.Buy.USED. Who cares about condition or highlighter marks.. this is not a bible & your not a priest. It is a reference only that will sit on a shelf for years after you use it for a few days or weeks. Trust my advice. :) Very Pleased.

It even includes a list of the R12 compressors by make and model that are compatible with the newer R34. And includes all the pros and cons about making this conversion. I mention this because there is a lot of confusion on this on the forums I found online, and if you want to know it all about conversions and, actually anything else to do with A/C, then this book is what you are looking for.

Bought one of these used for school, great condition, no complaints. Much cheaper than buying new which are way over priced.

So there is plenty of great information in this book, and I learned a ton from reading it. I like the tech tips and very detailed facts. However this does not make up for how awfully this book is organized. Either someone was paid by the page, or the publisher decided it would be fun to shuffle around everything. Is there a reason why A/C Compressor styles are spread across two chapters, or could they have just gotten their own? Why is Cabin Filter removal arbitrarily stuffed in the middle of the Heating Fixes Chapter? Why must it cycle btween A/C to Heat every chapter, doesn't it make more sense to separate them entirely? I'm usually a very attentive reader, but I keep drifting when the subject matter is all over the place. Fix the structure of this book and it will be great, otherwise, buy a different one.
