Itto Mentaiko is my favorite bara manga author. I love his style from his artwork to his storytelling. After purchasing his first published work for the west titled “Priapus” released in 2015, I was very happy to purchase his second collection of stories. His second book is titled “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” and contains 3 stories: Hamu and The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Holy Night and As Swift as Lightning. Between his two books, this new one is smaller only because there are less stories this time around which I was surprised with the publisher “Bruno Gmunder”. I know Mentaiko has a few stories that might not transition well in the west but I know he has plenty of others stories that could have been used for the second book but the publisher decided not to.The artwork in this book is great as usual just like the first book especially his first two stories: Hamu and The Boy Who Cried Wolf and Holy Knight. But the last story published in this book, “As Swift as Lightning” is one of Mentaiko’s earlier works, so the art style definitely looks different than his current art style, which is understandable with most manga artist/authors, since their art develops and changes overtime. The last story is still good but you will easily notice a difference in the art style. Just like the first book, this book is huge compare to your typical manga with big panels. Also Mentaiko’s art is uncensored again which is great! And last this book is translated in English even though the publisher is German. So definitely pick this book up if you were a fan of Mentaiko’s first book and/or you are a bara fan!

Absolutely loved the first of three stories in this manga titled 'Hamu and the Boy Who Cried Wolf'. Granted the author leaves you hanging with that one, instead of give the reader closure. Was still a really good read in my eyes and even pulled at the heart strings for a brief moment along the way.Story two, being 'Holy Night' was a good read, not a solid 100% enjoyable all the way through sort of read, but it was still good nonetheless. Maybe I see it that way because I've never really been a big fan of the whole typical friends with benefits type of a situation in a manga I'd be reading, nor am I a fan of that sort of thing irl either, so I guess it goes hand and hand.Story three, 'As Swift As Lightning' threw me for a loop, and often times confused me more times then I could honestly count. Reading it right from the get-go gave off this ancient Japan 50 Shades of Grey vibe, which to be perfectly honest, made me feel slightly uncomfortable. I still managed to finish the story though, which says a lot.

Loved his work since I first saw it few years back lol so glad Bruno Gmunder decided to invest in him! Wish they would print some of his older colored works as a collection

Japanese comics at their best.

I love these stories so much! Brings back memories when I was first coming out. I wish he would do a third book!

Review

"Paris in Stride: An Insider’s Walking Guide (Rizzoli) is a handy-size illustrated guidebook by two ex-pats, Jessie Kanelos Weiner and Sarah Moroz, who provide insights into the “real Paris” they know and love. Weiner’s charming watercolors of the city (and its food and wine) are the next best thing to hopping on a plane."—Jocelyn McClurg, USA Today"This useful and handy guide transports the reader to the Paris that only locals know. With unique and compelling narratives on culture and history, the authors have created an authentic glimpse into Parisian life. The attention to detail, originality, conciseness, and readability will most certainly delight the casual and veteran traveler."—New York Journal of Books"Charmingly illustrated with more than 150 of Weiner’s delicate watercolors, the book curates walking itineraries the authors put together to go beyond the typical guidebooks."—Times of Northwest Indiana"Full of gorgeous illustrations of the circular city and chronlogical itinerary planning of where to go next and why using the neighborhood map, this 170 page guide will easily fit in your carry-on and is the new must-have for your next trip to Paris."—The Simply Luxurious Life"Such a rich trove in a book small enough to carry with you through the city leaves only one negative feeling in you: If you consider yourself an expert on insider Paris, this book will prove you wrong!" —The Paris Blog". . . There's no better gift than the latest — and hands-down prettiest — guidebook from Rizzoli, Paris in Stride. Paris locals (and American expats) Sarah Moroz and Jessie Kanelos Weiner teamed up to create this illustrated gem of a walking guide to the City of Lights, complete with wit, watercolor maps and plenty of je ne sais quoi."—SHEKNOWS.COM

I thought this was going to be my answer for fun in Paris. The organization and maps are inaccurate and lack detail. We head to Montmartre for an adventure. The map was upside down. Stairways, which there are a lot of, are not marked. Also there are not enough cross streets to know where you are. Distances are not marked so you are in for a long walk at times. The book is shallow in content so once you arrive at the location you have a small description making you wonder if is was worth the walk. There are much better Paris walking tour books. Not recommended

I'm a huge fan of Jessie Kanelos Weiner. I follow her art on Instagram (@thefrancofly) and was so excited that she was coming out with a travel guide to one of my favorite cities. The book provides several, perfectly curated walks that will show you the very best of Paris from an insider's perspective. And the beautiful, watercolor illustrations to accompany are just lovely. I may need to buy a second copy so I can cut the pictures out!Whether you're traveling to Paris or just love the city as much as I do, I could not recommend this book more. I'm so excited to plan a trip back to the city of lights and let Jessie be my guide!

Such a beautiful little book! Will look beautiful on my coffee table and will be tremendously helpful when I travel to Paris! I love that the authors have lived in Paris, giving you the insider's guide on the best places to go. On page 97 it even gives you the best location to stand for the perfect view of the Eiffel tower that's across the street from a McDonald's and adjacent to the Metro station. Love it!

One doesn't even need to purchase a plane ticket to Paris to get a feel for the Parsian city, it's all here in this compact walking guide. Despite the unmerited comments about the font and lack of maps (there are plenty, with starting points and path), this is everything you would need to find the hidden treasures speckled throughout the town. The authors did a very thoughtful approach to make this guide not user friendly, but to also paint a small picture full of enough detail and description that the reader will understand what to expect historically, culturally and experientially. Accompanied by Jessie Kanelos Weiner's lavish watercolors, the book is chock full of all the information one would need traveling the less travelled areas with clever and super helpful tips such as "wine vocabulary" and "how to handle the cheese counter" that will have you appearing less like a awkward first time visitor and more like a seasoned pro. Bottom line, if you're going to Paris, get this book.

Paris in Stride...arrived in my mail yesterday. I love it! It’s the perfect size, feels good in my hand, the colors and illustrations are brilliant and soothingly joyful. We will visit Paris in a few months and I’ll have this book with me for sure. We have two days already planned with typical tourist-type events. But now the other five days, we’ll have this wonderful walking guide and plans to capture the essence of life in Paris—exactly what I hoped for. Perfect timing for us!

I love long weekend trips to Paris and my favorite thing to do there is wander for hours to find new and special places. This gorgeously illustrated book shares some of the best walking routes through the most exciting neighborhoods. It includes many of my favorite shops, cafes (I need a print of the page with Les Deux Magots), restaurants and pastry places and so many new finds that I haven’t been to yet. Looking forward to packing it in my carry on next month when I travel to Paris!

I never buy brand new travel books… They're always boring, predictable, and lots of blah blah blah.I do however enjoy buying older vintage travel books that are over 50 years old. This book is so good I'm convinced it will be a collectible in 20 to 25 years.Well-written and to the point with beautiful simple watercolors that should inspire anybody to pick up a paintbrush in Paris.

This lovely, well written little book is a wonderful addition to my arsenal of Paris books. The watercolors are charming and each tour is as if you were strolling around Paris with a friend who lives there, as Jessie does.I travel to Paris 2-3 times a year and know my way around pretty well and I found nothing inaccurate about the information in this little guide. Also, the Montmartre map is NOT upside down.Add this wonderful little book to your Paris collection or, better yet, if you have people in your life who love Paris, give one as a gift.

A book about Sulla: refreshing i thought and I hoped to find new information on a not so well known figure that was instrumental in the history of the late Roman republic. To be honest i was a bit dissapointed about this book, lots of the book focuses on the career of Marius and even of the young Ceasar, Crassus and Pompey and tries to place the life of Sulla in these events. Needless to say this brings a lot of barely founded suppositions (like how was the relationship between Marius and Sulla and more importantly when did it turn into open antagonism). The more i read of the book the more i realised i was reading a fairly standard tale of the beginning of the end of the Roman republic with Sulla's life being integrated in it by the author without much evidence. The author does a lot of effort to rehabilitate Sulla (to which i'm partially favourable) but does this with little supporting facts and for example quickly glosses over his infamous proscriptions, trying to put the blame of its excesses in the hands of for example the young Crassus and Pompey. On the whole well written and readable sometimes even enjoyable, but little new insights and a very heavy bias toward "the good Sulla, the last real republican" which was dissapointing.

"Sulla" is the best wriiten book I have ever read! Really an easy reader! This book answers many of my questions (in my own mind) about "What did Sullado that was so bad?" Of course, I was familiar with most of the charactersbecause of my daily reading about the era before Christ was born. Lynda Telfordwill become a reknown author so I am going to acquire her next book, "TudorVictims" just so I have it on hand. A note to Lynda, I finished the last hundredpages and "Sulla is a great book!!!

It is more like an essay than history. Though the author's arguments may be valid, I would have expected them backed by facts. Only the author's views are presented and in most cases the facts are wanting. I made a mistake in buying the book.

It was a bit simplistic and redundant for my taste. I am much more interested in reading Arthur Keaveney's book on Sulla.

Have read many many books on Ancient Rome. And the leaders who populated it. I have been drawn to Sulla and couldn't figure out how such a character could fascinate me! After. Reading Sulla: A dictator. Reconsidered It validated my feelings that there had to be A lot more to this man than I have read previously . So thank you Lynda Tellford it was a great read. Loved the book.,

I've read many books on Rome and Sulla has always been represented as a cruel and evil man... This book has shed a new light and changed my views of this Roman General and Statesman. Beautifully written and well researched! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Roman history. Thank you Lynda, for enlightening me and giving Sulla the praise that has been withheld from him for so long.

Reasonably detailed, recommended for readers already familiar with Rome's republican era and power struggles.

A fantastic examination of a complex and often unfairly maligned historical character, who deserves a great deal more respect as one of the great Romans. Telford has done a thorough and very readable job of parsing historical biases and shining light on such a truly fascinating character.
