Most reviewers give "Birth" all the praise, but the other two books are also quite good. Son of the Demon was very enjoyable, especially the beginning. Although continuity is questionable, and a whole other discussion, the part where Batman finally opens up with Talia and lets himself become emotionally vulnerable is interesting to see. Bride of the Demon is sometimes reviewed harshly, but I still thought it was an enjoyable tale. A little lengthy, and the art isn't quite as breathtaking as the other two, but nonetheless a good read. You can tell the origin of this book is dated - it appears to be set in the late 70s/early 80s. However, it doesn't feel dated though because the issues they face in this book are still major issues today - global warming, greenhouse effect, ozone depletion, etc. Finally, Birth of the Demon is already reviewed at length by many of the others on here so I won't go into detail. If I had to rate them right now off the top of my head, I would give "Birth" a 5 of 5, "Son" a 4.5 of 5, and "Bride" a 3.8 of 5. While many might not consider this an essential batman TPB, it would be a shame not to read this, especially if you're past the "recommended reading" of Batman (Long Halloween, Hush, Year One, Dark Knight Returns, etc). If you enjoy "Birth", Ras' origin tale, you may also enjoy "Tales of the Demon", which is more of his Year One in confronting Batman. They are very different, however, in that Tales is more of a collection of short stories and is not an epic such as Birth. Not a bad combo for a Ras fan, however.

There are three stories contained in this collection: "Son of the Demon", "Bride of the Demon" and "Birth of the Demon". Each story was originally published as a one-shot by DC in the late 80s - early 90s, and they're all very enjoyable. "Son of the Demon" is a tale where Batman and Ra's team-up to stop a terrorist with a link to Ra's past. Throughout the tale Batman and Ra's form a bond in a way and Batman even fathers a son (Damian, who is now Batman's latest Robin). This story strengthens the odd familail element present in all stories featuring Ra's and Batman, showing how they have simiarl goals, but can never really see eye-to-eye. Also, like most great Ra's stories it makes Batman into the globe-trotting James Bond-esque hero of the story, and that's always a fun depature from the grim, street level crime stories he is usually a part of.However, the centerpiece of this collection is "Birth of the Demon". This story is worth the price of the collection alone. With a story by Denny O'Neil and painted art by the excellent Norm Breyfogle, this story follows the origin of Ra's Al Ghul and tells us of the tragedy that lead him to become the man he is now. I won't give away anything contained here, because I feel it's best to go in cold. You'll appreciate it much more that way. This is a must read for any Batman fan though. Often-times retroactive origin stories tend to be disappointing, or take away from the impact of a character. However, O'Neil is talented enough and has enough faith in his creation that he creates an excellent, nuanced story for Ra's, and it only gives him more dimensions as a character.

The book is not a bunch of stories from a certain time point. It’s 3 different stories from different runs, and different years. The 1st is so cheasey but it’s expected because it was made in the 80’s. The 2nd is a follow up of sorts. The 3rd is the best and the origin of “the demons head”

Some great 1980s-90s Batman work here. The art is specially great, from Jerry Bingham's pastel-y Son of the Demon, to Tom Gindberg's very Neal Adam's style for Bride of the Demon (a great companion piece to the original Ra's al Ghul stuff Neal did), to some truly stunning Norm Breyfogle painted work. This is an excellent companion piece to the Tales of the Demon paperback that can also be found for a decent price.

Awesome! The first chapter was a good, old-fashioned detective story, followed by some glorious 90's camp in Bride of the Demon. The origins of Ra's Al Ghul, revealed in the last chapter, Birth of the Demon, were compelling, and consisted of beautifully nuanced and gripping art and storytelling. That story completely changed my perspective on Ra's Al Ghul, as a character. This collection is a must-read for any serious Bat-fan.As far as the physical collection goes, the prints were high quality and the paper was good enough. The only real complaint I have is that there is some minor page loss, due to the binding. They really should have adjusted the margins, but other than that, great collection!

Some of the worst Ras stories ever. Repetitive and on the dull side, only the art really has anything going for it.

Excellent reading and an excellent prequel to Batman & Son.BUT, it has a print error. 9.5/10I love this trilogy. If you are a Batman fan or just someone who wants to read something about batman, this is for you.

As someone trying to learn the full story of batman I thought this would be a good place to start since it answered many questions about not only Batman's past but also the history of his greatest enemy.
