I have several past editions of this guide and find it invaluable for identifying lures. I have identified unknown lures for Russ Lewis for his 6 book series and in the 6th edition of this guide identified an unknown lure... the Ping-a-tee...while it was still in production!!I don't rely on any of these guides for actual but only relative pricing value since condition is a very critical factor in the value of all fishing tackle. This guide along with the 6 volume set by Russell Lewis of more modern fishing tackle really covers anything you will probably find in any tackle box !

I already owned the sixth edition of this book, but purchased the eight edition in hopes that more information would be presented on some of the more obscure lure manufacturers. In some instances, this is the case, however, it seems that the author abbreviated much of the information on the more popular manufacturers in order to save space for the new companies added to the eighth edition. In many cases, I find myself still relying heavily on the older edition. Using both books seems to be the best solution.

This 670-page book contains much more than just descriptions of lures. I got the 5th Edition(1999) which serves me, a novice, very well. It contains lure descriptions, tips on collecting,and an expansive list of lures. I'm certain it will be a valuable reference as I move forward. The cost was a small fraction of the latest edition. I've already found information on a couple of lures that folks on Ebay had listed as "manufacturer unknown.

my husband received an old tackle box full of lures from a friend who just did not want it any more. we knew there were some from the early 20's to 40's,other than that we knew nothing about them. we found several books we thought might help us. we had a tough time deciding between this one and several others on amazon. at the last min we decided to get this one and are we glad. has wonderful history, easy to use index. it is a wealth of information. we have identified dozens of tackle. this book is HIGHLY recommended if you have alot of old lures.

Loved the TV show so we got the cookbook. Only tried a few recipes so far, but they've been good.

I love how the recipes are basic and traditional with easy-to-find ingredients. I've only made three recipes, and was surprised at the outcome. The jambalaya was outstanding and may replace the go-to recipe I've used for almost 25 years. But the King Cake recipe was a disaster (and I've been making King Cakes from scratch for two decades), and the Shrimp Creole is SO salty my family and I couldn't eat it. It calls for two teaspoons of salt PLUS 5 tablespoons of Creole seasoning (I use Tony's). I should've followed my gut instinct and held back on the salt, but I didn't, and now I've wasted $25 worth of shrimp plus all of the other ingredients. I would like to know if anyone else had this experience with this recipe!UPDATE: I've since made two more recipes: maque choux and the stuffed green bell peppers. Both were good, but a couple of things....maque choux traditionally has bacon in it, but this recipe doesn't call for bacon. However, I swear I see bacon in the photograph of the dish! The stuffed green peppers were a hit with my family, but there is a mistake in the recipe. It calls for 8 ounces of tomato sauce. At one point in the recipe, it says, "Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, and garlic." As any cook knows, this means to use all the tomato sauce because it doesn't specify otherwise. However, at the end, it says, "Pour remaining tomato sauce over peppers." What remaining tomato sauce?UPDATE 2: Last night I made the Redfish Sauce Piquante, and I found another discrepancy between the recipe and its photo. The picture shows a beautifully seasoned piece of fish, but the recipe calls for browning the fish with no seasoning. I followed the recipe and not the photo, and I believe that was a mistake. My whole family commented how the fish lacked flavor. If I make this again, I will season the fish before browning it. The sauce itself was pretty good, although I'm used to a Redfish Courtbouillon, which has a roux and I think the sauce would've benefited from a roux, both in terms of flavor and consistency. I also recommend cutting down on the Cajun seasoning, as the recipes in this book run on the salty side.

It's very well written and the type set is big enough to see without me having to squelch my eyes. The photos are colorful and the recipes are easy to follow. I.made gumbo which turned out very good. The book.is well made with a binding that can be wiped off easily if you spill on it

I have become a huge fan of his cooking show, and was excited to learn about this cookbook that correlates with the series. His no nonsense, humorous approach to cooking sealed the deal for me. I am inspired to cook something from it almost every time I watch him prepare a dish. Everything I have cooked thus far has turned out wonderfully--my favorite being the New Orleans Shrimp Etouffee. I have had to TWEAK a few dishes, but being a seasoned cook, that presents no problem for me. Each recipe has tips and beautiful color photos of the finished dish. He offers a bit of regional, as well as his family history at the beginning of each recipe. If you are looking for a specific ingredient that you do not have or cannot find, there are resources listed in the back of the book. Overall, this is a well written, easy to follow, entertaining cookbook and I highly recommend it!

I love this cookbook. He has a cooking show on PBS which I watch every Sat and all the recipes are in this book. Love Kevin Belton.

There are categories of loving this book... size/dimensions, perfect ... open format showing 1 recipe on both facing pages... the larger size of the text.. education of the region & recipe but not a long commentary... great photography.. even love the embossing on the cover. Kevin's soul comes thru in each recipe & yet they are simple, uncomplicated but straight from a Cajun granny's heart. WELL DONE!

Like many others, I first discovered Chef Kevin on Create TV. I bought this book because I enjoy his show and wanted to make some of the recipes. I have made several of the recipes and they all turned put very well.. Granted, there are a few recipes I can't make, such as the turtle soup and anything calling for crawfish, because I'm in New Hampshire and we really can't get those ingredients up here. But that does not take away from the value of the book, as most of the recipes call for ingredients that we can get anywhere. I know you can probably sub shrimp for crawfish, just not sure what to sub for turtle meat. But if I ever see it in a store here, I might buy it just to try that soup. It did look good on TV.

We live in New Orleans, and this is the essential Creole cookbook that the locals use. Kevin Belton is a great personality as well - catch him on your local PBS if you can. This is the third time we have purchased this book as each time we have out of town guests, they go nuts over the food we serve, so we send them home with our copy of this book, a jar of creole seasoning, and a bottle of Crystal hot sauce. The recipes are very doable for an intermediate cook, and the ingredient list is brief and available at most US grocery stores (although I bet our shrimp is better than yours :). The most difficult part is learning to make a proper roux although Youtube will serve as a good tutor. Remember, Creole food is not hot spicy, just complex, rich, and flavorful.

Purchased as a gift for my mother who is no slouch in the kitchen. She says it is well worth every penny.

it was unbelievable! the pictures were already colored compared to the 3rd edition. very helpful for my class. makes it easier to understand for my students. :)

As a clinical educator, A Doctor and supervisor of technicians in an eyecare setting this book is excellent-I wish it had a video component so I could show them videos of the techniques (maybe it already does) both these authors are great writers and being students of theirs I know they are great people too. Excellent!

I'm going to take a huge risk here and just admit right from the start that I am a Cardinal fan...and I loved this Cubs book. I've read about half of the "100 Things Fans Should Know & Do" baseball books...and this is one of the best. Even though the Cubs are notorious for not having won a World Series since 1908, this book is RICH with Cubs history. I was inspired to listen to the Sandberg Hall of Fame speech (# 4 on the list) and, somewhat painfully, relived the Lee Elia rant (# 18), and understood the frustration of the "ones that got (traded) away" - Brock and Maddux (# 11 from the list). I've only been to Wrigley twice -- but I do plan a full itinerary of "things to do" from this book the next time I'm in Chicago for a Cards-Cubs series. Heck...I might even consider going to a Cubs - Reds game and rooting for the Cubs!

I loved this book since I am a life time Cub fan. I bought a book for each of my children.

Unlike those on "Platinum Weddings", and all those other UN-reality wedding TV shows, I had/have hardly any wedding budget to work with. Bridal Bargains (9th Edition) has been unbelievably, without a doubt the biggest help of ANY resource ANYWHERE.I am a researcher so had spent hundreds of hours pouring over thousands of sites, pages, chats, search engines, you-name-it to find help in my area of SW Florida for inexpensive wedding/reception sites (none exist!)--I even emailed brides from OTHER STATES via Trip Adviser to find out where they got married in my own city!!! (Let me amend that by saying I couldn't put together a wedding for less than $5,000 and we just don't have it.)Anyway, after reading reviews of this book here on Amazon, it seemed it might have at least SOME help, but could be outdated.Not at all.Even after 7 mos researching online, having been to 3 overwhelming wedding shows, interviewing a few vendors and reading numerous bridal mags before even getting the book, I found its info relevant, informative, pertinent and so engrossing I read 2/3s of it the first night!One thing I didn't expect was letters from brides with real-life problems pertaining to each of the sections (such as Apparel, Ceremony Sites, Wedding Flowers, Invitations, Reception Sites, Catering, Photography, Videography, etc)., with the corresponding answers/comments from the authors, in addition to basic data on the subjects.Of course, the info is so important that I've got a million scraps of paper (as bookmarks) sticking out from every other page practically!I got my father to read the part about Reception Sites since he's coming with me to the negotiation--we needed to get our skills bolstered! :) He agreed that the book was a great purchase. (Though it doesn't specify HOW exactly to negotiate, just that one COULD/SHOULD and on which specific items/fees--but I didn't know any of that before.)I actually haven't gotten through the whole chapter on dresses yet b/c I'm saving that til after I get my venue secured. THEN I'm dress shopping! Soooooo, I can't comment on the validity of the book's references there, but the beginning of the chapter on how the shops operate is eye-opening. If you're already disgusted by how sleazy the bridal industry is, just wait til you read this!All I can say is, these people were banned from bridal shows by the vendors BECAUSE they told the truth about those people's practices!!! I mean, hurray for the Fields'! :D They should be getting medals and keys to cities for exposing the horrid business practices and ridiculous price-gouging that wedding businesses propogate. I can't say enough for the book. It may not be exactly specific to one's location, and perhaps certain URLs aren't current (I can't say yet), but the information and experience they've provided me thus far is INVALUABLE!Btw, the authors also a guarantee that if they don't save you at least $500 on your wedding, they'll give you a refund! No kidding.

A friend recommended this little book for my budget-conscious (but quality-important) wedding and it is just packed with information -- found it best to skim through the sections with a pencil and dog-ear pages useful to me.The authors do a good job refraining from advising what's best for you and your wedding (unlike everyone else in your life while you're wedding planning). What this book really is is a compilation of all the information you're unsuccessfully trying to search for on Google -- a helpful, narrowed-down-but-still-plenty-of-options bullet-point bible of resources, tips and advice from real brides/grooms.Most useful to me were the lists of questions to ask vendors (sites, caterer, photographer, videographer). Typed them out, reworked them, and brought them along with us to meetings and phone calls -- we learned all we needed to know in our communication with vendors in the planning process, and would not have without those question guides. After all, you really have no idea what to ask these wedding-specific vendors unless you've planned a wedding before.Would suggest reading/skimming this early on to get a good idea of the overall wedding planning process.

Read bridal magazines. Search the internet. Even pick up the awesome Knot guide on weddings. THEN READ THIS BOOK!!!This book is seriously amazing. Its not just a "things you can do to be cheap" book like some I've seen, no its actual ways to save money and make your wedding dreams even more realistic. Even if "daddy" is picking up your wedding tab, I'm sure he would appreciate saving more money. More money that can be spent on future things, even your honeymoon!Its actually set up pretty well too- divided into sections such as dresses, bridesmaid dresses, catering, etc. Now, this isn't the end all only wedding book you will ever use kind of book. This is just a common sense way of thinking about weddings and how not to get screwed out of your money. I actually recommend reading this after you read some of the other great wedding books (see my reviews) but a must before you spend money on anything!

After reading the book and having still 13+ months til my big day this book has already saved me over $1,000.00 and I can only imagine how much more I'll be able to save! Every bride should read this book. Don't get sucked into the wedding industry's mind control that to be fabulous it has to break your bank. It doesn't and this book has some wonderful points & ideas. I will be giving this book to all my girlfriends who get engaged. Finally a wonderful, practical (and enjoyable) wedding planning book. Proof that your "dream day" doesn't have to cost a fortune. The good news here is you don't have to sacrifice what you want or do it on the cheap, this book just helps you do everything you want - smarter. This is a must-read for every bride-to-be.

I like this book because it's broken down into sections, so as I plan each part of the wedding I can use it for references. There are a lot of great ideas & websites to go to, and includes some information from "real brides." The only thing that I'm not particularly fond of is that they seem to go on and on about why NOT to buy from David's Bridal. I understand an opinion, but really? It's kind of annoying. Minus that one part, I'm really glad I got it. Out of all the 10+ books I checked out from the library and purchased, this is the one I keep coming back to.

Black Comics is so well written and provides a wealth of information which so eloquently gives the reader an in depth perspective of the genesis of black comic writers and how underrepresented they are. It opens the door to inspire one to do further research to understand the plight of black comic writers and how they have evolved over time. It also brings to light various issues that comic writers have tried to deal with in their comic strips. Over the years I have never read comics thinking of social issues but now I am inspired to reread some older comic strips to try to really understand the social issues and not just look at black comics for their comedic value. The book also covers so many varying perspectives, that you will never just read a black comic book again, without thinking about, what is this writer trying to say or what is the social issue that this comic strip is dealing with or what is the writer trying to get a cross to the audience. This book has me looking at comics more seriously and for that, I am very grateful and inspired.Dr Sheena Howard has me excited about future books to come!

Information to lead to an even greater information trove out there. This book scratches the tip of the iceberg of our contribution and menial representation in the comic media genre world. I am going to enjoy this and will love to share its wealth of knowledge to my young clients.

This book is good because it gives a clear discription about a females anatomy and how it sexually functions, but I don't agree with the view it has about sex. When I was in my preteens my mother had a talk with me. She said that orgasms are a healthy part of life and it's important to have them regularly. I believed my mother but seeing it as a book cemented that idea; so, I dove right in.Dr. Natasha Janina Valdez, a licensed clinical sexologist, introduces the reader to women's sexuality and explains the health benefits to orgasms. As a well-read, sex-positive woman I didn't learn anything that was new although, had I been a "beginner," her explanations were a perfect introduction to the woman exploring herself.She places great emphasis on self-love which is wonderful. Too many women are devoid of self-love and Valdez is determined to make women comfortable with their bodies. The book was well organized but I found that a lot of the ideas were repeated. Now, this could be a good thing as this book was dedicated to a beginner but I wanted something more. I do commend her for encouraging women to show their lover (she uses the male pronoun when she talks about a woman's partner) how they like to be touched. This can strengthen a relationship and bring both partners pleasure they didn't know they could have.Overall, the idea was great and her advocacy for women to explore their bodies and find what they like was very sex-positive. For a woman who is in the process (or about to start) of making herself into a orgasmic woman, this book is a must. For those who already know their likes and dislikes, this is a good reminder.

It's through Milne's series of books that Winnie became a household name.This is a sweet story featuring beautiful illustrations but it's the the addition of the picture album at the back of the book that really makes this book stand out. The author also happens to be the great granddaughter of Colebourn and her inclusion of pictures of the real Winnie with Harry and his troop as well as pages from Harry's diary during the war give it a personal feel.This is a uniquely Canadian story involving a bear who won the heart of a soldier, his WWI troop and the entire world. This is a beautiful book with a very touching story. I love Caldecott books; they never disappoint. The cute story, connection to real events, memorable artwork, and realia in the back of the book make this book a winner.I gave this to my 6-year-old niece with a stuffed, black bear cub because I am the worlds greatest Uncle.Everyone was very impressed with this book, the bear, and my awesomeness.

This is the Caldecott winner, Lindsay Mattick is the Great-Granddaughter of the soldier, that rescued what we all have come to know as Winnie the Pooh.....what a delightful story for all Pooh lovers!! I had heard the interview on NPR radio (which I cherish to listen to while in my car). I am a Pooh fan from way back and had never heard this story....I love that Ms Mattick's, narrative is a story she is telling her own son. My only compliant is I didn't care for the illustrator's style, in fact I had first ordered the other book called" Winnie", by Sally M. Walker....I liked the look of Winnie better on the cover..."Finding Winnie's" bear was a little ghoulish to me...and honestly thought the story was by the same author...however, once I discovered my mistake...ordered this book.The story is more detailed....actual photos are on the pages, where the "Winnie" book just have them on the inside book jacket....this will definitely be a great gift for anyone who knows Winnie...even if it is for yourself!

I absolutely love this book. It is such a neat and interesting book. I purchased this book for a class; we had to write a paper about a children's picture book. I was browsing through books and I saw this and saw that it had an award, so I chose it. I fell in love with this book after reading it. It is a book that I can share with my niece and my fututre children. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I love the idea behind the book. The book actually has different stories within it, while telling one of the most important stories of all time; the bear who inspired Winnie the Pooh. The illustrations in this book are absolutely stunning and gorgeous. I also love that at the end of the book there are the actual photos of Winnie.

Wonderfully illustrated and well told, the reader learns a bit of history while going on a journey with Winnie.I love bear stories from Native American culture and I love Smokey Bear stories. This is a wonderful story for people of all ages. Every adult I know who has discovered this book has been moved by the true story of the origin of Winnie the pooh. It is also exciting enough to hold the interest of a kindergarten class. I work in an elementary school and this is constantly checked out by students in every grade. I needed my own copy for my kids and home, and amazon had the best price and sent it quickly and in excellent condition.

I purchased this book to read to my grandchildren as background knowledge to the Winnie the Pooh series. To know that Winnie the Pooh was based on a real bear who had some rather interesting adventures seemed the perfect introduction to the fictional series. The book was a little difficult in content matter for four and five years old children, so I improvised on a few pages. It still fascinated my grandson, who is now excited to start the Winnie the Pooh series.

I was a Senior Interviewer during my senior year at Wesleyan 1981 and so I worked with many of the main characters in the book. Although the book describes a later time period it rang entirely true to me. The volume of applications...the controlled chaos...the searching for a hook or a champion for an application was very familiar.At least at Wes it seemed (and seems) that unless one's application has some unusual feature that the school is looking for that year (a particular athlete or a particular musician or a particular tough background that was overcome) the road to admission will be challenging.An area that did surprise me was the emphasis on the family of the applicant...and the degree to which an applicant was held to a higher standard if their parents were deemed to be college fluent. I guess this makes sense and actually provides a leveling of the playing field but it was surprising none the less.It may also be surprising to some that these days you don't just need to convince the gatekeepers that you could be successful at the school..you must also show how your presence would enhance the school. This is of course an enormous burden for most teenagers.Like it or not this is the reality at many "top" schools. If you or your child is applying to college you owe it to yourself to read this book....either to understand the game or to make an informed decision not to play.

Very eye opening! I really got a feel for what the admissions officers go through. I really had no idea, i thought it was much more impersonal. My only complaint is that I wish along with the other students in which they chose to go into depth that they would have chosen an international student. I would have liked to have known how they were evaluated as compared to the American applicants. But still this book was not only helpful but interesting as a novel with personal stories you were interested in following.

I bought this book to help me with getting my son into college. I kept reading it because the story line was so interesting. I began to care about the admissions person and his story, I wanted to find out how everything ended up for the kids that were applying to colleges. This is a great story with a very helpful behind the scenes look into the process. I recommend reading this book along with the others that are simply telling you the mechanics of what to do.

It was eye-opening to read about how intense some of these teenagers are. I couldn't stop reading and it was fascinating to know all about the applicants and how the college reps are already interested in some of the younger high school kids because of their outstanding abilities. I would highly recommend this book to any parent or student if they want to have an insider's view of the college applications process.

A must read for understanding the college application process. Very informative and interesting.

One of the most valuable books that any parent of a perspective college student will read. The author shares a rare view into the closed door spaces of the admissions process; bringing some perspective of the experience from the admissions officers and guidance counselors. This book brings a touch of reality to the often frenetic pace of the college search and admissions process, revealing there is often much subjectivity in this experience. A fast read and well worth your time and attention.

A terrific book -- on many levels. It is, first, a series of excellent suspense stories, with vivid characterizations of the students seeking admission to Wesleyan. The author found some fascinating students to follow, with the result that the reader really cares what happens to them. Even more important -- especially to someone about to embark on the college hunt -- he provides an invaluable insight into how the admissions process works. The admissions game, I now realize thanks to this splendid tale, is a crazy-quilt mixture: at Wesleyan, at least, the process focuses on the individual, quirks and all, far more than I imagined. At the same time, the process comes off as frighteningly random -- with so much depending on which admissions officer reads the application, and what that person focuses on in the few minutes available. The book is also a vivid reminder that admissions officers are people, too -- people of infinite variety.So it was a pleasure to read -- and it will also prove immensely useful to parents. One common theme kept repeating: take the hard courses, even if it means lower grades. Another: having a passion is a real plus, but the rest of the record can't be a disaster. But those are just the beginning.

Great book and a good read. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 10 years when these institutions have to change and adapt to the new realities and education consumer. I hope Steinberg will continue to write about this subject.
