I love this book for so many reasons but mostly because it's getting the word out about what functional medicine is and how it IS the future of healthcare. If you read the stories in this book, you'll realize that every single one was a progression from chronic illness to vitality and wellness. Health coaches will be integral to this delivery model, giving patients who utilize them an edge to meeting their goals. If we're smart, adding nutrition professionals and health coaches to every single medical team would be a paradigm shift in the right direction. We need to switch from an illness based system to a wellness based system. This book covers all the important points about being a health coach, and why proper training is essential. Health coaches are a new key piece to solving our healthcare crisis. The patient centered healthcare of functional medicine can revolutionize our world. As a former critical care nurse, and a 10+ year cancer survivor, I speak from experience when I say Food Is Medicine.

This isn't as much a book as an advertisement for their program. I am an integrative RN health coach, so I am familiar with a lot of the information, however, even if I weren't, it never really tells anything. Lots of pages "Mary from Pennsylvania. Once I found coaching I made a six figure salary.....". "Beth from Montana. I love watching people get better......" Nothing to sink your teeth into. A huge disappointment.

Some good information although it seemed to be more about hiring the author to teach me to become a Medicine Coach than a resource of information. If I really want information, I felt the only way I'd get it would be to sign up for their course. I'm not looking for a new career at 71 years old.

Not much meat on the bones of what functional medicine is. It is mostly an advertisement for their training academy. Not worth the price.

I didn't find this very helpful; was essentially a collection of stories from coaches rather than a guide of how to be a coach. Very basic and not very informative.

I preordered this book not knowing that my son would spend a month training with the Cleveland Clinic center for functional medicine. I love the offer of the free consultation and I will pursue the training to be a coach.I believe this is the future of medicine, of health, of disease prevention and attenuation. Thank you for this most excellent book. I'll be spending a lot of time with this information.

Sandra Scheinbaum and Elyse Wagner are two of the key leaders in Functional Medicine coaching and founders of Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, a well-regarded learning platform for health coaches around the world, and this book covers all the important aspects about being a health coach, and why proper training is essential, as well as providing a clear understanding of the value and impact of Functional Medicine. This book is a must-read if you’re a health coach or an aspiring health coach. You may even find it useful if you’ve worked with a health coach or plan to work with one in the future (to get a better understanding of the process and how you can benefit).

Was excited to stumble upon this book until I read it. Not much substance but a whole lot of advertising for their coaching program. Not worth the $9.95 I paid!

Amazon.com Review

When Christy Huddleston leaves a life of privilege and ease to teach in the impoverished Smokey Mountains, her faith is severely tested by her pupils, the love of two men, and the curious customs of the mountain people in her community. Yet she grows to love these people and the simple, fulfilling lifestyle to be found in the heart of God's country. First released in 1967, Christy is based on the life of author Catherine Marshall's mother and was the inspiration for the recent television series of the same name. Beautifully told, this is a charming, timeless tale of love and faith that will appeal to romance readers of all ages. --Maudeen Wachsmith

#497,972 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I was looking on my coffee table this morning and saw my three favorite books. "The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society", "The Help" and last but not least, my good and dear friend (I look at books as amongst my friends.) "Christy". The first two I have as audio books (so I can listen to them when travelling). I looked with sadness at my volume of "Christy". I had never found an audio version. You can imagine my surprise and joy when I learned that "Christy" is now available as an audio cd. I couldn't order the book fast enough! I have two copies, in hardcover, of Christy purchased many years ago. I wanted the second copy so I could yellow-line each segment that includes Fairlight. Over the years, I have often read just what I yellow-lined. I find their relationship compelling. I believe Catherine Marshall is in a Place where she can see my thoughts. I've read every single one of her books...and am happy to see that some others are now on audio cd. What an amazing gift!

This is not a book that takes a long time to actually get into the story - there is action from the first page. Christy is young, opinionated, and idealistic, but most of all, she is honest about herself and the world around her. That is what I love about her. The other characters in the story are just that - CHARACTERS. Most are lovable - at least by the end - some are angry and violent, but all are three-dimentional and true to life. You find yourself growing and learning right along with Christy, and there are more than just "young love" or surface issues dealt with. Christy asks the hard questions about life and does not just give easy or trite answers. If you let it, this story will really stretch you. I highly recomend the book Christy and have bought copies for several friends.

Excellent story. So much better than the mini-series I have purchased several copies of Christy and have given them as gifts for friends/family who spend a lot of time in the car. I have heard comments like "that is the way my grandmother used to talk. I would highly recommend to anyone who has some Scottish ancestry, it gives some insight into your heritage. I found this to be a thought provoking book.

I read this book when it was first published, even before the TV series, which I also enjoyed! However, I lost the book somewhere along the way. Lately I had been thinking a young friend would enjoy reading it, so looked it up here at Amazon, and had it again in my hands in a few short days. It's an amazing account of a young woman's adventure in teaching in an Appalachian school early in the 20th century, during which she was forced to learn much more about life and health and spirituality than she could have expected. And it's also a sweet love story--based on Catherine Marshall's own mother's life.

As a fiction story, I give this one 5 stars. As non-fiction, which I was lead to believe it was before reading it, I give it 2 stars. The book Christy is written by the daughter of the fictional character Christy. The story is awesome. It pulls you in and you quickly become attached to the complex characters. After reading 500 pages, you want some good closure. Some resolve. What happens to the wonderful characters who you've come to like and love? More importantly, which one does Christy marry? David or Neil? Well, don't read this book and expect to find out any of those things. The ending is far to abrupt, and there is no clue as to who she marries. The TV series also leaves this last question unresolved; one of the main reasons that I read this book, hoping to find out. No such luck. So, I resorted to searching the internet and ran across this website appalachianhistory.net where I found an article about the REAL Christy Huddleston. Her real name was Leonora Whitaker and the story in the Christy book was much embellished. I suggest that you go to the website and read the true article for yourself. By the way, there was no Dr. McNeil at all, and David's true life character (which Christy/Leonora did marry) was John Ambrose Wood. Read Christy and think fiction and you will love it. But don't expect a great ending. :(

I loved the book so much, that I named my daughter after the character. I sent this copy to her so she could read it too. She is 44 now.

Great book about my area...East TN! Makes me think of my roots as it's a good account of how things were during that time period. Also makes me think about how important God was to these people; wish it was more like that now.

"Christy" is one of the most inspiring books I've ever read. I asked my book club group to read it in January of this year to start us out on a positive, upbeat note, which they did. We each kept notes of some of the things we personally learned from it and shared them that night. It's one of our all-time favorites.
