I don't believe any other company can prepare an easier to use, more precise and more helpful book than this. I have bought other Fodor travel books in the past for Spain, Portugal, Cuba etc. and have found all of them to be up to date and crucial to making all my overseas trips enjoyable. I use these books to plan each days activities and I was never disappointed.It is why I always have used and will continue to use Fodor travel books. I highly recommend them to all travelers. And I always recommend that you do your homework by reading the book before you go.
Fodor's is ALWAYS a good guide to have for vacations.They tell you so much more that you would be able to pick up on your own.
I bought this guide because I have always had good experiences with Fodor’s guides, especially their ‘Places to Stay’ sections. I have found Fodor’s to be a better printed resource than the others, I was looking for a recent Fodor’s guide on Florence, Italy, to supplement info I found on the Internet. However, apparently all they publish is this one, which combines Florence with Tuscany, etc. I’ve been to Florence before and stayed near the Duomo, and I wanted recommendations on hotels in other areas. I assumed the information on Florence would be thorough enough for my purposes. However, it was very skimpy, and useless to me. I also find it very odd that the city of Florence, with its richness and variety of art, architecture, etc., does not ‘deserve’ its own Fodor’s guide. I think it does. Guess I will be relying on the Internet from now on.
Guidebooks differ. When I make an important personal trip I often buy more than one guidebook. There is no comparison between Fodor versus Rick Steves' Florence and Tuscany and/or the Green Michelin. Being European the Michelin guide is very rich in historical and cultural details with high quality and very precise walking maps, but it is a little stiff. Being American, Rick Steves is more informal,rich in practical and up-to-date details, the kindle version has very convenient internet links and downloadable commentaries of important sites. These two guidebooks complement each other well. Fodor has none of these qualities: little info, simplistic maps and an outdated format. It was money lost for me...
Nice travel book, but nothing special. I would not use this as my main source, but only as a back-up.
These guides are great! The only problem is that the print is small for old folks with failing vision and will need a magnifying glass to see some of it.
Just great! Has lots of maps, directions and hints. Everything from main attractions to restaurants to shopping. Perfect! Will buy again for other cities.
The book was good for an overview of the top places to visit in Italy. We are mid-range travellers and enjoy more of the feeling of staying in and visiting many locations that are not on the top of the list for tourists. The book gives the basics for sights to see but I have found other books to provide more of a "flavor" of la dolce vita.
