This book contains a lot of good riding info for beginning and advanced riders alike. I've been using the book for years and always get something new out of it as my skills improve, or as a reminder of things I've forgotten.I used to get this book from the library about every year for a refresher. As another reviewer said, much of this book seems to be an advertisement for Reg's life and school. But, those parts are easy to skip over if you're not interested.

I started with Keith Code back in the late 80's and eventually read most of the major motorcycle training / safety books. Each book adds something to my archive of techniques. It might be just one paragraph that I didn't really digest on the first time through.Reg talks about smooth in a way that connected with me. The information may have been found in other books I have, but Reg reached me and changed the way I ride for the better.If you're interested in the history of our sport his side notes about racing and riding on the street in the 60's are worth the price of the book.My wife and I have taken his class and this book added to the experience. I highly recommend this book.

Part history of Pridmore's and others racing, part instructional manual and all a good read with useful information. Every idea and skill you acquire for riding a motorcycle is another arrow in your quiver for survival in the wars of the street.

This book is the perfect book for riders who are comfortable with their bike and ready to take things to the next level. I had read David Hough's "Proficient Motorcycling" already when I got this book, and wasn't expecting to learn much when I tried this book out from the library.Needless to say, I was totally proven wrong! Where Proficient Motorcycling focuses 80% on street strategy and 20% on mechanics, this book is the other way around, and a great complement to Hough's books. While the book is basically about advanced riding techniques that racers use, the focus is always on how these techniques make you a safer and more capable rider on the street. This is one of the things I like most about the book. I also read an older version of Keith Code's "Twist of the Wrist", but found it hard to relate to because it's a serious track racer's guide. This book has skills you can immediately start applying to your current riding, even if it's just a daily commute to work.Although the book is not very long and is a fairly easy read, I'm finding that it's taking a long time to absorb the techniques. It takes a lot of attention to break old habits, and one doesn't have much attention to spare in the first place on a bike. Anyway, I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of adjusting my riding to use the techniques in the book, one at a time. It's brought a new level of freshness and areas to focus on improving to my riding.

I've read a lot of motorcycle rider books. Several are riding strategies and training related. This book is very well written. The progression and explanation of the riding tips are such that you immediately understand what and why he's recommending a certain skill. Its also structured in a way that you can use it as a reference and progressively master each technique.Was I impressed? I registered for a CLASS day with Reg and will be riding almost 1,000 to get there for it.Recommend the book? Absolutely. Read it, add the techniques to your riding, and you come to appreciate the lessons almost immediately.

Read this before you ride again if you want to stay alive on the streets. I was a rider with decades of road experience but was doing a couple of things wrong until I read this - doesn't matter what you ride - you need to read this book.

I found this informative, the more quality books you read the better you will ride.

The book is supposed to be giving cliche'd character designs because it is good to know the fundamentals before people break off into complex personalities. I liked most of the art style, I think obviously an art book should be allowed to judge it's content by the talent. It covers some good points about action such as the center of gravity and portraying ongoing actions with a still drawing.If you are interested in stepping into fighting-styled comics it doesn't really hurt to look.

Hi there! I am an art teacher. This book is really good for many reasons. First, it gives you everything to create a figure from the start. From the basic 8 head figure to the sticky one. Also it has a great simplified scheme for drawing the head. All my students love the style. Its seats on the "neutral side" of the manga aesthetics. But the best point is the huge amount of poses it gives. From the most subtle to the most radical ones. Even some students that do not want to draw manga, sometimes check this book in order to find good ideas for poses. I usually find that people are too harsh with Christopher Hart books on reviews. Okay, they might not be the best one, but they are usually very well done and cover the basics to more finished steps quite nicely. This one is no exception on this matter. Great book. Strongly recommended.

This book is quite the specimen. The quality really impressed me! The colours are very nice and vibrant and the tutorials are brilliant. It contains a very wide array of different drawings, the variety is beautiful.

I bought this book because needed guidelines and a structure into how to draw and set up for shonen manga. This book was a perfect teacher. It takes a lot of studying and practice but the pictures inside make great references. A great buy.

Nobody writes dysfunctional friendships on steroids quite like her.Awaiting a delayed flight in Vancouver, Kim meets Nicki, who challenges Kim to step outside her comfort zone. On the plane, over a bottle of stolen vodka, Kim commiserates about her ex boyfriend Connor, who’s also on her educational trip to London. Nicki opens up about her alcoholic mum and the two girls joke about killing each other’s “problems” ala Strangers On a Train. Then Connor winds up dead and Kim’s nightmares are just beginning.Kim lies. We know this because she tells us. She seems sympathetic, but appearances can be deceiving and narrators can be unreliable. I couldn’t get a grasp on the real Kim and I’m certain Cook crafted the protagonist to be just that evasive.While a little slow to start YOU OWE ME A MURDER is quintessential Cook, which is a very, very good thing. Clue or red herring? I never knew.I loved reading YOU OWE ME A MURDER. Although I’m a big rereader, including Cook’s other books, I’m not sure this one is the type I’ll read twice.

This is one of the books I expected to love and that totally fulfilled its mission!17-year-old Kim is about to fly to London for two weeks with a bunch of schoolmates. She’d hoped she could opt out because Connor, a guy from her group, just broke up with her—worse: he’s traveling with his new girlfriend—and she says this much to a newly met flightmate, Nicki. Unlike Kim, Nicki seems fearless. They become instant friends. They do daring things. They laugh. Over vodka, they make a pact—you know those pacts; they’re so stupid, but GOD it’s such a relief to spit it out! So okay, I’ll kill Connor and you’ll kill my mom for me. But when Connor turns up dead, Kim wonders; they were joking back in the plane, right?While this book isn’t about guessing who did what or why but rather how the main character is going to stick her head out of this mess, I read throughout the book as if I was munching on popcorn and watching a show—there was something almost Final Destination about it. I hoped for a grander finale, but can’t say I was disappointed by the ending, and since it’s a YA thriller I went to my daughter and recommended it to her.

I really enjoyed this book. Occasionally I found myself mentally yelling at the protagonist for being a dumb teenager, but other than that it was quite good!

I had more problems than I had praise for this book, unfortunately. I was highly disappointed by the fat phobia and amount of body shaming/ girl on girl judgment from Kim. Not to mention she vehemently defended herself by saying she was not politically correct, as if that was a horrible thing to do. The word psycho was tossed around a lot and I don't like when mental health diagnosis is thrown around willy nilly in the book.The characterization is this book was really lacking for me. I didn't connect with Kim nor did I believe her transformation. Connor was an absolute douche and that was his whole personality. Everyone has some sort of redeeming quality and he was very one-sided. The villain of the book was just weird. I certainly didn't believe the reveal behind her motivations and I felt it was a stretch to make her seem as much of a mastermind as we were lead to believe.I wanted more from all of it and what I did get fell really flat for me. I can recommend thrillers that I think are done better than this one.*I received a complimentary copy of this book from HMH Books for Young Readers through NetGalley. She is the daughter of one of the original Mommy Bloggers. This means her mother is basically a famous Mommy Blogger, making good money for her efforts. This also means that although never referred to by name, Kim's life is blogged about for the world to see. This created an interesting view point. Kim in essence is a victim of her mothers blogging. I found this an interesting & very with the times for today's young adults when essentially everything is plastered all over the internet for everyone & anyone to peruse. It most certainly can give one pause in considering that perhaps we shouldn't be so open in discussing/photographing every aspect of our lives.Kim convinces her parents to let her go on a two week educational trip to London with other school mates. The trip is a learning experience by being lightly chaperoned & shown around London. It sounds like an absolutely delightful way to learn a little current & cultural history by doing. Unfortunately Kim's motives aren't pure. She wants to go because her boyfriend is going. Be careful what you wish for. Before the trip, her boyfriend dumps her & immediately starts dating another girl. Kim no longer wants to be on this trip, essentially trapped with her ex, watching him cuddle & coo with his new lass.As the back of the book states, Kim meets a total stranger at the airport, named Nicki. Kim is instantly smitten with Nicki & as a result finds herself doing risky things she normally wouldn't do. Once in London, Kim starts healing from the breakup & is happily moving on. However it seems that her ex is still having some issues. Next thing Kim knows, he's dead. It creates a lot of stress & emotional trauma on many of the kids, but they manage to move on as best as they can. But not Kim. Nicki wants her murder & is determined to make Kim do it.It seems that Kim is in over her head with Nicki. She makes decisions that made me groan as the reader. At the same time, Kim shows her intelligence with making choices I would have never expected. The ending was an interesting surprise - one that I most certainly am not disappointed in.Overall, this is a very good & mildly suspenseful YA read.

I found this book very slow. For my taste there was too much unnecessary detail. I did find it well researched and I learned a lot about India’s history, demographics and politics, but for me it was hard slogging at times. I actually had to take a couple of breaks and read a lighter novel in between, but I was glad I finished it. I recommend it for its thoroughness and accuracy for those who want to learn about India’s independence movement, partition and the devastating after-effects - but this is not an easy read.

Great account of Indian Partition from the standpoint of the English and Mountbatten. More of a personal memoir or expose on Mountbatten's life, personality and efforts to satisfy the Indian factions. Mostly about interpersonal relations between Mountbatten, his wife, Nehru and Jinna as they haggle over their interests. Read Midnight's Furies afterward to get an even better account of what happened during partition.

tunzelman presents the little known facts about the end of india. indeed there were many things i did not know or imagine. like how lucky we are that india did not disintegrate into many little states after partition. how kashmir is something india got hold of unfairly, perhaps due to the emotional wishes of one man, nehru. the book sheds more light onto the greyer side of gandhi's role in the partition, or in fact in the independence struggle itself. tunzelmann is not kind on anyone, be it nehru, gandhi, jinnah or mountbatten. however, he does not sit judgement but presents things as he happened; or at least how he thinks they happened. it is indeed amazing that someone as incompetent as mountbatten got such a large role to play in india's independence; and also that unless you go close to the scene, you can't see him for who he was. teaches you that history is not to be trusted as accurate ; you probably have to get multiple perspectives. this one brings some balance into the picture !

This is really a story about Ghandi, Nehru, Jinnah and the Mountbattens. Way too much time is given to the lifes of these 5 main protagonists, especially to the relationship between Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten. The title should be changed to reflect that. If you read this book with the aim of better understanding the various movements and ideologies, the communal issues and tensions, etc. surrounding the end of the British Raj and the partition of India, you will be disappointed, as I was. For instance, no context is provided to explain the slaughters in Punjab in particular during the partition. Was is spontaneous? What is planned, organised? If yes, by whom? Well, I can't tell, because it is not discussed in the book. You will learn what dress Edwina was wearing when and at what time she met with Nehru, but not who were the main agitators behind one of the worst saughters in history. Disappointing to say the least.

Initially I wondered if I had wandered into the wrong book...it seemed way too much about Dickie Mountbatten, his royal connections and his wandering wife. But then the author delivers a gripping and enlightening story about how the Partition of India happened, making sense of a complicated situation and a cast of Indian leaders. Mountbatten apparently facilitated his wife's many liaisons, including Nehru, asking her for details and pouting when she held out. One wonders if his Partition decisions were influenced by his desire to nurture a good relationship with Nehru. In other accounts of the Partition Mountbatten serves as a useful scapegoat, but here is portrayed very sympathetically, making the best of a "sticky wicket". Perhaps, but it does seem that the Raj has a lot more to answer for than suggested here. The no-holds barred analysis of Indian leaders and their contributions to the making of a cataclysm is a useful corrective to more nationalistic assessments. This book is an enthralling work of beauty and intelligence, grounded in comprehensive familiarity with the archival materials and secondary literature and a deep appreciation for India and all the actors. The characters and scenes are brought back to life with luminous prose in this sweeping drama. Lady Mountbatten's work with refugees amidst the turmoil rescues her from her role as sensual sidekick and contrasts markedly with her husband's love of pomp and ceremony and fetishes with medals, uniforms and family tree. Grab this page turning history and hope the author has another epic in progress.
