This was a "best buy"! Excellent information on history, culture and social customs. Truly made a difference in the quality of my visit, which was fabulous, by the way. I highly recommend this to anyone traveling to Ghana for the first time.

My son used this on his trip to Ghana. Said it was very useful for an overview of the country and a cultural understanding.

Much smaller and more concise than the Bradt guide to GHANA. But indeed, "the essential guide to customs & culture". I highlighted insights on almost every page. Very practical, easy to read, and small enough to pack.

It explains every eventuality that a tourist could encounter when they visit Ghana. I especially love the pre Modern and Modern history in the beginnings the book. I would recommend this book to any one interested in Africa and Ghana culture. The quick and a to the point understanding of the people.

I have traveled in Ghana numerous times and was looking for a book that I could share with Learning Abroad students. After some of the comments about accommodations of slavery, I just couldn't trust the rest of the book.

It is a perfect shortly and precisely described introduction to Ghana and its culture. I'm moving there in a few days and for me it was a perfect beforehand introduction - on the basis of the you can go experience it for yourself!

I usually do not read and review children’s books; however, I found this 30 page hardcover fully illustrated book a pure delight. It is a cute little story with colorful drawings on each page. It is about a boy named Nicki who loses one of his white gloves in the snow.While the glove was in the snow numerous animals make the warm glove their home for a short time. Nicki eventually gets his glove back which makes for a happy ending.This is a wonderful and delightful story book for very young children.Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. A boy of about 7 or 8 wants warm winter mittens, in white. His grandmother advises as color so the mittens can be found if dropped. But Nikki wants and gets white. Off he goes into the deep snows around the small farmstead---and drops a mitten while climbing a tree. Not noticing, on he goes having a wonderful snowy day. So does a wee mole who crawls in the mitten. So does a rabbit snuggling right down. So do a forestful of animals, all enchantingly portrayed with expressions of increasing annoyance as a ox---a fox and then a great big bear climb into the sot warm mitten.But---a tiny mouse, a latecomer, climbs on bear's nose causing a big sneeze which propels all the critters hither and yon, and tosses the mitten through the air just in time for Nikki who is searching to catch it. On the last page, Nikki is happily toasting his toes by the fire while Grandma holds up the mittens she has knitted puzzled indeed about why has stretched and stretched.The story abounds with delights for reader and listeners: the text is written with almost a poetic cadence with lovely sounding words; the illustrations are bright with color and joyously composed, the story tickles the imaginations and offers a grand platform for talking about animals who might or might not fitten into a mitten. For my family, this was a perfect Christmas-tide story even here on a tropical island .Any Reader Alerts? None at all. This is pure enchantment at a very affordable price. Very highly recommended.

This book is beautiful. The illustrations are ethereal and adorable. The story is sweet and old fashioned in a good way. It might be a long read for young children, but I think it's worth it.It's not neutral colors and relaxing, I like that about books. It's not neon colors and flashy stories with no meaning, just to hold children's attention. It uses some old fashioned terminology and language, but that's a good thing because I don't feel it panders to younger readers.It's beautiful. Get the book!

We're thus on our second copy, first was a gift, and I'm here to tell you board books are easier on the washer than are paper books.The little mitten cutouts highlight the upcoming action, which our son really likes. Great story and illustrations.

Purchased this book for a 24 day countdown to Christmas. I wrap up 24 books and put them in a open box. Then Dec. 1st I let one of my grandchildren open a book then I read it to them. This way they learn to count, listen, take turns and wait. It is fun to do.

You never forget a Jan Brett book!I purchased this book for my classroom, since we are studying the world and culture through music! Couldn't think of a better story to read to my class of 3-5 year olds.I never forgot her illustrations and the book was exactly how I remembered it when I last read it at six years old!

I bought this as a baby gift - the start of a library for him. It was one of my favorite books to read to my children and one that they loved. It is a joy to read and it made me laugh the 100th time I read it. Illustrations are marvelous

Beautiful story for children. Grandmother Baba makes white mittens for Nicki but warns him that white mittens are easily lost in the snow. Sure enough Nicki loses one mitten. One by one the animals big and small find shelter and each other inside the mitten. Then the bear sneezes and the animals fly out of the mitten. The mitten sails up into the air and Nicki finds it. Lovely Ukrainian folktale adapted by Jan Brett. Very beautifully illustrated.

This is a classic childrens' story that has been rewritten by Jan Brett with her own ability to draw animals in nature and appeal to children and adults alike with her illustrations and page borders that predict what will happen next.

Wow. This is a small book but it packs a lot in. The author gets that as a new developer I can look up the nuts and bolts of how to do things. What I really need is "the lay of the land", a basic understanding of concepts, and knowledge and direction about what is available. (That has been one of my biggest problems in the development world - there is so much out there to learn and I don't know a lot of what exists for me to use.) This book is awesome at indicating where help can be found on many topics. He is great at explaining the concepts - writes like he is a friend explaining what you really need to know. So although it's technical it doesn't read like many other textbooks. This is the most valuable book I have found so far on the subject. Mine is marked up and pages are tagged and it will stay near my computer. I highly recommend this book to anyone using Xamarin.

This book is a mixed blessing. The first section covers what Xamarin Forms is with some good explanations and graphics, however there was nothing that I couldn't find elsewhere on the net. That section I can get by reading a myriad of net articles.The second section is the App, Hurrah! Something I can get my teeth into, lets build a modern app! Well no. Sure he has a wonderful app, hosted on Github, using interesting tools and techniques. But instead of building it, he just describes and outlines the code. First steps to programming? Hardly. I was expecting a nice step by step instruction manual that also outlines the structure and tools.The third section is the future of Xamarin forms. I didn't read it. So two filler sections and a nice description of an app he made.

Finally a book about Parkinson’s that I can understand, a book that gives me as a caregiver so much useful information and my husband with PD a more optimistic view as he progresses thru this disease. Even if you are just curious about the disease, perhaps know someone that has just been diagnosed or wonder if there is something you might just be missing in your maintenance program, this book is excellent, easy reading, organized and informative.

excellent book in easy understanding wording......it is written without the clinical way of other books. his mom has the disease and he tells theall the problems surrounding it and some ways of dealing with it. I found it to be much easier reading then other ones, since I have recently beentold I also have this horrible disease.

I'm living as Lianna lived, with a mother who has Parkinson's. Her ideas and tips are helpful especially when learning what the hell this disease is all about!

Overnight this book helped me better understand what my Mom was going through and helped me calm her down during an "off" time. It made her symptoms more easy to understand.

This is good, practical information from someone who has lived with a Parkinson's patient. I recommend buying Book 2 to go along with this one - addressing the caregiver side of the equation.

There is no more complicated machine in the world than every cell in every living thing. Rana takes us through the knows science of the cell, and during this discussion you will come to your own conclusion whether or not it appears this was all designed for life. It is amazing.

For a tough subject that goes deep into the working of life the writer does a good job of trying to make it understandable to the layman. Found it very interesting and thought provoking.

Impressive revelation of God's handiwork in creation of our basic building block. I was taught in school that cells were simple organisms. Boy were they wrong!

When Darwin contructed his theory of evolution by random mutations and subsequent "survival of the fittest", which included the emergence of new body forms which led to new species, genera, etc.up to even new phyla, he and his followers where under the impression that the cells in an individual of each species were very simple, consisting of a cell wall which enclosed a "glob" of undifferentiated protoplasm in which floated the cell's nucleus in which the material that controlled reproduction and inhertitable characteristics (called 'genes') resided. Reproduction of a cell was a simple process in which first each of the genes divided in two and then the cell (by reason of some unknown signal) split into two cells, each with its own portion of the genes.The author of this text leads the reader through a precise, detailed description of actually how incredibly complex an indiviual cell really is, and how that complexity, both in the multitude of diverse components that a cell contains, and the exacting diverse functions that these individual components each must perform on schedule for the cell to remain alive, makes Darwin's premise about a cells ability to mutate and thereby create new cells with new functions incredibly naive, and, more importantly, extremely improbable.Rama carefully documents the detailed descriptive journey through the cell with a continuous stream of references to supporting citations for published studies by a host of international research scientists working in the relevant fields of cellular biology, physics, and chemistry, including those engaged in the evolutionary aspects of those sciences. As one makes one's way through the material, it soon becomes very apparent that Darwin's theories about how evolution proceded are far from universally accepted in the scientific community. And as modern research has increasingly revealed the complexities of the cell, it is also apparent that science has yet to satisfactorily explain how life itself first came into existence, and how new species and new body forms (genera, families, orders, classes, phyla) arose in the relatively short time (geologically) that life has existed.on earth.One aspect of the book will undoubtedly blind those who have an unalterable (and, perhaps, irrational) personal bias against any hint that something other than scientific materialism (as it defines itself) may be involved in the formation and function of the universe. That is the author's stated belief that a Supreme Being is the only rational explanation for how the complexities of all living matter, from the simplest one celled organism to humans, that science has now uncovered have been able to come into existence and survive. To denigrate the author and reject the unarguable validity of the contents of the book detailing the complexities of living cells, complexities that science itself has revealed, and which raise real questions about their origin, because of the author's personal beliefs, would be the mark of a very small mind, indeed.

If you want to consider each of these ePages as 2 pages, it could be considered 32 pages long, but in my Kindle, it registers as only 18 pages (with the first 2 pages being the title page and all of the other technical information).Secondly, this book's author took the time to find relevant photos. For example, the 2 pages about archery actually including pictures specifically about archery. In some of the other books by the same publisher, I felt that sometimes they were put together to quickly and thoughtlessly where a page about archery would just have a generic photo or clipart about the olympics. In this book the author took the time to select relevant high quality photos.Finally, the text is also good. There is only 1 paragraph written for each of the only 7 sports highlighted in the book. But the information is relevant and interesting. It could probably be read by a 2nd grader and could be read to a 3 year old and they would understand and be interested. Adding my review of Olympic Sports - When and How as an ebook, so bare with me. I downloaded this instantly from amazon after purchase, to my cell phone to use with my free kindle app on phone. Unfortunately, my actual Kindle Fire was having difficulties and I could not download to it. So my review is based on using a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone screen.This is a short book on SOME of the sports included in the Olympics. It touches on Archery, basketball, swimming, javelin throwing, fencing, sprinting, and judo., telling when each sport was introduced to the olympics and what each sport is. Very basic and to the point. Easy to read information for any age reader.The pictures are real photographs of each sport in motion, and are very detailed and beautifully done. I love how the book links the words to a real photograph, helping the reader understand what each sport is.Overall, this is a basic book on some of the olympic sports. The pictures make this book awesome to read!I received this ebook for free or a discounted price to offer my honest opinion concerning this ebook.
