I am so excited for this series. This was an exciting book and had a lot of villains, but very easy to keep track. I loved how they met and their relationship really began then, but they didn't know it.The character's have great depth and I enjoyed their journey to romance. This book was somewhat tame in the number of times they make love, compared to some of her other novels. There is one or two foreplay prior to marriage, and the passionate stuff after marriage. I enjoyed how their romance blossomed slowly, that it almost hit our H in the face.There are some battles that were written so clearly I could smell the gun fire. We get a bumpy road to HEA and no cliffhanger which I appreciate. Also, an epilogue one year in the future which I loved and tidied everything up nicely.I would have rated higher, but for two things. There was one misunderstanding, that I thought our H should have explained why he said what he did, and the reason. That upset me that even when things calmed down, he didn't try and smooth things over and let our h be hurt. Especially what she had to endure. At times, the beginning dragged somewhat for me. My rating is probably closer to 4.5 stars.I am not going into the story line as the author and many reviewer's have explained it. I'll just stick to explaining what you may discover reading this story. This author is talented and can weave a story to make you feel part of the action. I recommend this story and any other by this author. (ljb)

It is a real seafaring romance romp that's difficult to put down once you begin. I loved it and highly recommend it to readers of romance and historical romance. This is the first in a series, and if this book is any indication, the next book is already on my list!I cannot wait to read the story of the next pirate. Will it be Thor or le Brecque?
How to adequately describe this book? Action, adventure, mystery, humor and undeniable attraction are only a few words that come to mind. The first page pulls you in with one of the great Pirates of Britannia, Shaw MacDougall, working as a mercenary looking for a lass he was ordered to kill. Lady Jane Douglas, was already struggling for her life when Shaw came upon her. Unable to kill her, he instead rescues her and disobeyed the orders Sir Andrew Livingston, who had hired him. Jane ends up living in a nunnery for five years to avoid Livingston, because he knows she is hiding a hugh secret that could change the course of history. Has that caught your attention? It should because it is an amazing secret! Jane cannot forget the handsome pirate who saved her, so when she found out Livingston was going to visit the nunnery, she sends for Shaw to help her get away. The real adventures begin once she is under his protection. Eliza Knight brings the characters to life and you can see them in your mind. If you like pirates ( how can you not?), undeniable attraction and a page turning adventure, this is the story for you! Cannot wait for the next book in this amazing series!! Thank you Eliza Knight!!
YESSSS!!! Can I get a Shaw in real life? : )What a great read and an absolute page turner. The heroin is enjoyable and her plight is one that mirrors many woman of the time. As for our hero....he is deliciously bad and honorable at the same time. I enjoyed this read for many reasons, one being the story line itself was intriguing and passed well. The characters were well written, not overly done, but done in such a manor that you felt you knew them. There were several characters that intertwined into this story, but it was not distracting. While at some points you may think, oh I hope that secondary character gets his own story, you are so focused on the h/h that you keep turning the pages and putting the pieces together in this web or adventure and romance. The romance was hot and on a level that makes you want to take Shaw home. Eliza Knight never ever disappoints in this capacity. If you want it hot, mild or scorching she can deliver all. Love that this author continues to share her gift of story telling with us. Thank again for another fantastic story and a yummy hero!!!
The Mercenary meets his match. Savage is paid to carry out the nefarious orders, by Livingstone, at Edinburgh Castle. He sees a beautiful Lady, wife to a member of the Douglas Clan. He subsequently rescues her-instead of killing her as was his duty. For the next 5 years, thoughts of each other linger, until Savage receives a missive from the former Lady Douglas. He sets sail for the Abbey, rescues his Lady and a journey on the sea is begun.This was such an adventurous tale. Interjecting Le Brecque into the story line, their continuing relationship of mutual respect and fight at the drop of a napkin or toss of a lady's skirt. I think I enjoyed their banter as much as the love story between Jane and Shaw. Anxiously awaiting Book 2 and Book 3!
